Lone Star VOC Summer Update

June 2024

Howdy folks,

Howdy from Texas where we skipped spring and went right into summer! Lots of action for the Lone Stars with several rides and bike projects to report.

The Lone Stars did their annual Texas Hill Country jaunt in mid-April, including a stop at the Lone Star Museum in Vanderpool Texas and a display of member’s bikes at the Antique Motorcycle Club of America’s big Fandango show in Fredericksburg Texas. Three days of perfect riding weather with Peter Allen leading the way over some new roads, as a pre-run for our hosting the North America Rally at that location next spring. Start making your plans now to join us next April 1st 2025 in Kerrville Texas!

In May, several Lone Stars made the trek to the state of Arkansas to ride the 'Crooked and Steep' roads in the Ozarks Mountains around Eureka Springs. About 450 miles in 3 days of beautiful scenery and great friends. Check the video ride report here: https://rumble.com/v4xycp8-vincent-motorcycles-in-the-ozarks.html

Lone Star Lon McCroskey was visiting France and hooked up with the French Section who treated him to an afternoon of visiting and talking Vincents! Dr. Lon promises to write up a report to share. Maybe we can get some of those folks to Texas next year too!

On our way back from the Arkansas ride, we stopped off at Big D’s Cycle in Dallas Texas for a peek at what fun projects they have on the bench. We got to see the restoration progress of the ’52 Shadow owned by Mark Stoleson of Arizona, that reportedly has a several year history of ownership by Jack Surtees. Mark found the bike in the UK in rough condition and shipped it to Big D to bring it back to its former glory. I’m sure it will be roaring around the Texas Hill Country next spring!

Dave Roberson and Shana Brader finished the upgrades to Shana’s Comet, including an electric starter and double leading shoe brakes and hydraulic steering damper. That’s a fine roadburner now.

The March issue of Classic Bike featured a story on Dave Hartner’s restoration of the Jenkins Rapide, named for it’s previous owner Bill Jenkins. This beautiful bike is getting its final fettleing and will be joining us on the road soon.

Speaking of magazines, Clif Haggard’s beautiful Vincent twin made the cover of the latest issue of Ride Texas magazine! Great to see these machines being shared with the wider riding public.

Next up is the North America Rally in Galena Illinois in July, then a break until cooler weather arrives in the fall. We plan to have details about the 2025 National in coming months. Hope to see you there!
