Mecum 2026 Vincent Sales Report
Mecum’s Las Vegas January 2026 sale didn’t disappoint! 5 days of motorcycle sales with nearly 2,000 bikes crossing the blocks. What a show, with a saddle for every butt. I bet there were 20 different motorcycle brands that I didn’t know existed. Ever heard of a Redup Radial three cylinder? Or a Koehler Escoffier? Or a Fuji Rabbit?
16 Vincents traded hands, from a 1950 Comet Featherbed project for $4,400 to that very special A Rapide at $236,500. Go to www.mecum.com and search results or just click here: https://www.mecum.com/auctions/las-vegas-motorcycles-2026/lots/ Search for Vincent and you’ll see all the photos and descriptions.
Nicely turned out Comets went in the $22,000-$27,000 range, except for a standout price of $40,700 for a C Comet that stated Comprehensive restoration with 71 miles since completion. Our Lone Star experts commented that it was perhaps a bit over-restored, with stainless fenders and allen head bolts. Aficionados will tolerate the use of Monoblocks or Concentrics but allen heads are a no-no. It was shiny though and caught the eye of at least 2 ardent bidders!
Overall, I thought pricing seemed firm to up slightly from recent lows. The one I was dreaming of was the ’49 B Shadow that went for $66,000 all in. A win for the buyer for sure. The very nice touring B Rapide went for a strong $60,000, with a C Rapide going for very near that. A pretty C Shadow went for $90,000 while a rough barn find one went for $52,800
Lot S212 was a ’49 C ‘Saigon’ Shadow with some special provenance, that went for $132,000. Lone Star Tech Officer David Hartner sent in these comments on the action:
1949 Black
Shadow $132,000 https://www.mecum.com/lots/1163917/
Pretty high price, given non-matching numbers and Monobloc carbs. The
description suggests it's the "Saigon Shadow", with no details.
I looked for some history, and found these accounts:
https://bikeshedtimes.com/the-saigon-shadow-bounty-of-the-revolution/
https://www.vincentownersclub.co.uk/threads/vietnam-and-or-monthlery-shadow.2701/#post-22706
But it's confusing. One account mentions an A Rapide, a B Rapide and a C
Shadow sent to Vietnam, the Shadow having engine F10/AB/1B/7810, frame
RC9710 B/C. The other account adds a Shadow engine (F10AB/1B/9203),
race-tuned and having been at Montlhery for the record attempts.
That engine is said to have the number of the Mecum bike, which means the bike
just sold is not the "Saigon Shadow" - apparently a compete,
factory-built bike - but was built from the race engine at some point. I
can't find any info on that.
Anyway, nothing sells like a good story.
Dave
Hopefully all this action shows that there’s a new group of enthusiasts who appreciate the fine engineering and style of or Vincents. Ride ‘em, don’t hide ‘em!
Get that beast all fettled and ready for some spring rides,
Mark Scott
