Captain's log Tuesday 9.19.23

 Adjust tappets. mess with jetting.

The Intrepid Lone Star section are off on the group ride ahead to the pack. All usual suspects present.  Peter Allen leading the way, tardiness not to be tolerated. 

Up the long hill and above the sea mist, california rolling wine country hills, Lovely twist roads. Some fiddling around by the roadside and we are passed by the thundering pack of the main ride. Drat. They disappear in clouds of hazy smoke leaving us to the pleasure of the open road. 

First to the brewery for lunch before the cloud of Hazy smoke finds us again.  An amazing mass of gleaming Vincents align like the stars.

More twisty roads past a beautiful lake and down to the seaside town of Cayucos for sea air and sea food and the crash of surf on the sand. Back to the hotel for joyful revelry and live music. Interesting people, including Stuart Wood, a designer at Triumph. A fun night.

 Captain's log the next day ( Wednesday 9.20.23)

 Wake, eat, adjust tappets, mess with jetting. The usual suspects convene. Beat the pack and we are off up the coast. Repeat 50 miles up to the dead end due to a slide on highway 101. Great ride, it has it all, views, twisty road, elephant seals and good food. Best of all, very few cars ( on 101!) Maybe we should do this again.

Back at the hotel a repeat of Speed is Expensive, the movie. Worth a second watch for sure. 

 OK, I'm off to the hot tub.

  Howdy Lone Stars,  Lots of action at the Vincent International in Ventura!  On Tuesday 12th, the group rode from the hotel to see the collection of Daniel Schoenewald then over the mountains to Ojai! Wonderful roads through the orange orchards in the valley then up over the mountains with some spectacular scenery. We came back by a different route including about 15 miles along the 101 at the coast. A great ride of just about 100 miles and everyone made it back safely. I got some video of the group leaving the hotel, riding into see the Schoenewald collection, and riding up over the mountains. Welcome to the Lone Star Vincents

Introduction Howdy all and welcome to the blog of the Lone Star Chapter of the Vincent Owners Club! We will report on the action of the Lone Stars, related to the owning, maintaining and riding these iconic motorcycles.  The initial reports over the next month will cover our attendance at the Vincent Owners Club (VOC) International meet being held in California from September 11th to the 22nd, 2023. This will likely have the biggest collection of Vincent motorcycles ever seen in the USA. Bikes will be coming in from all parts of the globe, with the Southern California Vincent group planning an action filled 2 weeks. We will visit museums, see Jay Leno's garage and his collection of Vincents, ride the legendary Mulholland Drive up to The Rock Store and have a special screening of the new movie Speed is Expensive about the life of Phillip Vincent.  Howdy folks, This one is out of order as it is a ride report that I wrote for our Central Texas Painted Churches ride in March 2023. Check it out! On Saturday March 4 th , a small group of Lone Stars headed south out of La Grange to tour the country roads and see the beautiful painted churches of Central Texas. PERFECT weather- CHECK! Beautiful country roads- CHECK! Wildflowers in bloom- CHECK! Zero traffic- CHECK! Great friends to ride with- CHECK! Or as they might say in this part of Texas- CZECH!   Our ride begins at the Lukas Bakery on the main square of downtown La Grange, across from the county courthouse. This family bakery has been a fixture in La Grange for over 75 years and makes the real-deal kolaches and apple strudel. The way to meet people in La Grange is to sit on the bench outside Lukas, with a map in your hand. We had every local stopping by to say howdy and offer help with directions!
